I trace the scar on my arm.
I trace the scar on my hip.
I trace the one on my shoulder
And the one just under my chin.
I follow the outline of the hourglass over my heart.
I rub my thumb across the semicolon on my wrist.
One is there for luck,
And the other a reminder I can make it through this,
But I wouldn’t call myself strong.
We all have to fight.
I’m just one of the ones
Still trying to make things right.
I pray.
I plead.
I beg to whoever listens,
Just let me bleed.
Save the ones worth saving.
I will be just fine.
Save the ones who need it
And I will cling to life.
I count the beats of my heart.
I count the seconds of each breath.
I count the minutes I have lived on
Since the last thing I loved left.
I think of the choices I made.
I think of the mistakes.
I think of all their faces
And then my heart breaks,
But I wouldn’t call myself weak.
We all have a light.
I’m just one of the ones
Still trying to make it shine.
I come.
I go.
I will walk any road,
Even all alone.
Don’t look back for me.
I will be okay.
Give your hand to the lost
And let me find my own way.
