Is this the sky for which we fought?
Is this result the peace we thought?
Too much was sacrificed
To keep it alive–
To barely survive.
Hues of red and shades of gray
Blanket a horizon unchanged,
And the warmth of the summer sun
Is lost to the face of love
Drudging through the mud.
There was no right choice to make.
Sometimes love is just another name for hate
In a world too dug in to change.
Too soon is still too late
When no one wants to be saved.
The pain is buried so deep
That words have nothing to reach,
But we are still the same–
I want us to be the same
And remember that place.
Where dreams meet the sky–
Blue and green far and wide–
Hand in hand,
You and I,
And everyone that never has to ask why.
The smile that used to show,
The one that vanished with the twilight glow,
It is still my reason to go,
And I wanted someone to know,
Even if they never follow.
I may never find my way
And wander alone through uncharted space.
I may not be worth the chase,
But I will never cower before the tomorrow I face.
I promise I will return hope to this place.
